I just got a new MP3 player and have spent the last 2 nights ripping CD's to my computer to put on it via Window's Media Player. I have others that I want to put on, but won't have all those here. Does anybody know if I can add CD's later and change the order? I want all the songs from one artist together, for example. Also ... it seems like a LOT to do all at once, but I'm afraid that if I don't do it that way, I'll lose track of what's on there.

You should be able to set it up the way you want. There should be a menu at the top to list it by album, by artist, etc.. and you can change those fields. You can definitely add/remove albums at any time. I personally use playlists, my music is so eclectic that I keep them separated

They were ripped through Windows Media Player so I have to "synch." I think. I would much prefer to drag them in like the directions on the player say.

I tend to avoid music syncing to my MP3 players as it is often the case that something gets messed up. I always load my players with drag and drop, but then again, I keep my MP3 files/folders in a folder hierarchy that makes sense to me so its easy. Most people who trust any music library program may not have much say about its organization, making it difficult to find things manually. If you really want to get OCD about your music, like I am, you make sure you convert the music to MP3 using a decent bitrate (or VBR), then use a freebie MP3 tagging program to correct/add tag fields and I always refactor the track file names into something more suitable for independent identification. That means instead of allowing tracks to be named something like "06 - Build Us Back.mp3" I use the tool to rename them to something like "Newsboys - Born Again - 06 - Build Us Back.mp3" so that if I see that track in a folder listing, I know exactly what it is.

Can I drag and drop even though I ripped them using Windows Media Player? I would think so since they're still on my computer.

. . . . ...... hey Di! Congratulations!!! What kind of MP3 player didya get?? I love LOVE mine!!! Most of them you can drag and drop... it won't hurt to try... they are basically like a glorified jump drive. I don't sync my music... it always messes up my ipod. I handle mine manually....

The cheap kind on sale at Toys R Us for $25! I'll try the drag and drop .... does this mean I can change the order, or is it alphabetical? I've been ripping CD's every night and have like 30 of them on my computer .. it would be nice if I could start getting them on there and off the computer before the computer crashes from it all! (Or at least before Roomie gets home from a trip.) I know it will take a while for it all to go over, which is why I'd like to start the process and go to bed or to work.

. . . . ...... you get to know your mp3 player through trial and error. Just do it and see what happens! Try like 3 or 4 songs at first and see....

Well ... I am really angry! I plugged my mp3 into my computer ... was going to synch, and thought better of it. Then I turned it on a day or so later. It seems that somehow EVERY CD IN THE LIBRARY was somehow copied to the player. This includes TONS of albums that belong to my roommate which I DID NOT WANT on my player! I took it to work, assuming that I'd be able to open it like a jump drive, delete the unwanted albums. They are gone from the directory when I pull it up on the computer, however, they are STILL on the mp3. What am I doing wrong????

when you plug an MP3 player into a computer, the computer recognizes it as an MP3 player versus just a flash drive (by default). Computers can handle the MP3 player in two different modes MTP (Multimedia Transfer Protocol) or UMS (Universal Mass Storage). A regular flash drive, even with MP3 files on them will appear as an UMS, and as a drive letter accordingly. This is not so with the MTP. Each machine that the MP3 is plugged in must either use UMS or MTP method. Although switching back and forth is possible, it complicates things for Multimedia software (like Windows Media Player), and potentially confuse the user. I always recommend to use UMS, as many multimedia software can still recognizes the 'storage', catalog it, and transfer media to it. In MTP mode, you can re-arrange the content by using Windows Explorer, drag and drop multimedia without an issue. Most likely you moved the files, or dropped the originals in an other folder somewhere. Search for *.MP3, and you might find them.

Well, I should mention that work 'puter is a Mac and home 'puter is a PC. I really have no idea what most of your post was saying. Anyway, called the manufacturer, who said Windows Media Player has a mind of its own, and he will walk me through re-formatting the unit at home. He doesn't speak Mac. It just annoys me because now my MP3 is littered with Roomie's junk. When I got rid of them all, there were 14 artists left. But 4 Gig was all but eaten up.

I open up the MP3 player from start > computer in Vista so it looks like a folder. Then I go to start > music for the music files that Media Player made. Then I right click copy from the Music folder and right click paste to the MP3 player. I only ever had to use the sync when we had a pay Napster account and it had to verify the license.
