OK, I have had just about enough of my uneasy stomach that jumps from one digestive extreme to another. It makes me crave cheese one day and salad the next, then avoid salad like the plague. I hate, loathe and despise yogurt so today I started on "yogurt in a capsule." A short time later, I burped and the taste was SO not pleasant. Anybody else take them? How have they worked for you?

I tried activia. Didn't make a difference in the long run. I am taking Digestive Advantage and that is seeming to help better. I don't like plain yogurt only the real sugary ones so that is why I am taking the capsules. I'd like to try Align but it is expensive.

I just read, will try to find, that yogurt is not a good source of probiotics unless you make it yourself. Sitting on the shelf stops the process and it dies. We use a powder for the kiddo and capsules for ourselves when digestive tract needs a boost. Not sure how much good it would do in your stomach since they are designed to be beneficial to your GI tract but it's worth a try!

I meant to be more clear. I was talking about "yogurt in a capsule." The other day when I had problems, I took imodium and it had me stopped up for 2 days. I'm really concerned that the capsules will have the same effect and am afraid of what will happen if I take them daily or DONT' take them daily.

Capsule makes more sense Di :) I take them minimum 2 wks when having issues or for a week after problem clears up. Them taper off. So far haven't had any problems with reversing. Immodium is good in a bad spot but not fun when it works too well. I giv our cats slippery elm to help with gi problems and have taken it myself and it can help slow things down without stopping entirely. But in your case I would do probiotics for a while and see if it's going to help.

I take non-dairy probiotics every morning, with my first drink of the day (along with my thyroxine) and not only does it not taste of anything, I don't get any afterburp taste either.

(eg constipation, diarrhoea, heartburn, indigestion)

Are you lactose intolerant? Have you tried the a-B milk? That seems to help me more than anything.

Well, I've only taken one so far ... too early to say if it works ... and it was last night. I dont' want to take them too close together so I will wait until tomorrow. It's a pain that you have to refrigerate them. I did take several other pills at the same time ... and with melted ice, and the water in that community has a nasty taste too. No, I'm not lactose intolerant ... and I have PCOS. The meds I take lead to various extremes in and of themselves. And I read an article about how "most" women have gluten insensitivity. I do kind of think that this thing is so new on the radar that the skeptic in me wonders if someone's trying to sell a book.

Medically it is really difficult to pin down which foods are causing this increase in problems, esp among women. However on the IBS support groups - many have been advised to cut dairy and wheat and their symptoms have improved. At least you can try it for 2 weeks and see if it helps.

(which is different) What PCOS meds do you take? And, I don't know if you maybe missed my question, but have you ever been tested for any food intolerances? With the PCOS, the usual recommendation is to change from white bread to wholemeal (wholewheat), white rice to brown, white pasta to wholemeal (wholewheat), and to cut out white sugar too.

How do I know? Because I don't get sick after eating it. Because I can go entire days and even weeks without consuming a bit of dairy, and don't notice a big change. Because when I am sick, dairy makes me feel better, not worse. And regards to grains ... because I spent months on a low carb/good carb diet (South Beach) and did not notice a remarkable change in this area. All in all ... it's generally minor and something I can live with.

All in all ... it's generally minor and something I can live with. Again, I misunderstood - because that wasn't what I got from your OP.

Sigh. This thread is not about lactose intolerance or lack thereof, gluten intolerance or lack thereof, or my body in general, which frankly, I'd rather not discuss at length. Let's just say that I am very much a believer in eating things that will help your body, be it vegetables or cheese, as both have certain digestive effects. I simply want to know how probiotics, especially the kind in a capsule, work for you. Can we get back to the point, please?

I buy a supplement from my chiropractor that has ox bile in it. It is called GB+ & I'll have to look at the brand. It is about 25$/bottle.

Easing symptoms of lactose intolerance (hence my mentioning this) 3. Halting or possibly even suppressing disease-causing bacteria, fungi and parasites, which can cause things such as IBS, Heliobacter pylori infection, skin infections etc) 4. Possibly improving the body's own immune system's defences - all by altering the microorganisms in a person's intestinal tract.

I haven't taken the pills so I really couldn't answer. I suggested the aB milk (yes, little "a" big "B") because it tastes just like regular milk and has all the probiotics you need.

Well .... I picked up my bottle of acidophilis or however you spell it for like $4 at my local discount grocery store. It has 100 capsules. Somehow I doubt I'll take them all ... but I will try it for a while longer before I discard the bottle.

I didn't have much success with probiotics, but everyone else in my house swears by them.

Di I always take double the label instructions because you can't overdose on them and I'm not a petite gal. That's my rationale anyway :)

•Lactobacillus acidophilus which contains over 100 million active lactobacillus acidophilus (including the naturally occurring metabolic product produced by lactobacilli) at the time of manufacture. This is according to the label, and according to a web site selling it. Heaven knows I wasn't about to type all that ...

Is the refrigerated or non refrigerated kind better ? If I buy the refrigerated kind I forget to take them.
