WOO HOO I'm down one more pound! I'm so NOT sad to say buh bye to it, either. That puts me down 18 lbs total. Took me 3 months, but it's becoming an automatic way to live at this point, and I'm so happy because I never thought I'd be able to say that again lol. It's coming off pretty steadily now, which means a plateau is around the corner somewhere, but we'll burn that bridge when we get to it.

Off to decide on dinner. Need something smooth for the baby since he bit his tongue really bad this morning and won't eat anything I've tried to give him. I bet it's really sore by now, he's been up taking a nap for a couple of hours. Boys!!!

Hi molly,
I went to GNC today and bought a couple of those Ostrich Beef jerkey things. I wanted to test the flavors in individual packages before ordering a box in bulk online. My youngest daughter and oldest son tried a bit too-they actually liked them. The terriaki flavored ones tasted a bit salty-but not much different than beef jerkey. Haven't tried the pepper flavored one yet, As long as I didn't think about what I was eating-I was alright with it....LOL

(The "ostrich" part has a bit of an ick factor with me. Not sure why as I eat chicken. beef, and pork....LOL)

Anyway-Thanks for the suggestion-a great low cal way to get some extra protein in.

Glad you're being adventurous! I discovered ostrich burgers a few years ago, and discovered it was a very lean red meat -- very similar to beef, and not at all like turkey or chicken -- so it was less of an adventure for me! How much were the individuals Ostrim sticks at GNC?

There's quite a bit of salt in those sorts of things though, isn't there?

Hi Molly,
They were 1.68-1.69....I forget exactly, but in that range.

Manda-Sodium is 310mg on the pepper one-terriaki is eaten and wrapper gone so can't vouch for that one.

Calories 80...1.5g fat....25mg cholesterol...potassium 550mg.....carbs 2g...sugars1g....protein 14g...calcium 2%....Iron 10%

The original ones have less sodium than "standard" beef jerky -- but I didn't check the sodium on the flavored ones (barbecue, teriyaki and pepper). And since I'm biking so much, a little sodium in my ostrich sticks won't hurt ~ especially since I don't get a lot of sodium in most of the other stuff I'm eating these days.

I had a great workout day yesterday but I forgot my limits. I ran 3 miles and then I lifted REALLY heavy. I increased all my weights by at least 10lbs. Then I did this amazing class called Sole Synthesis. It is a mix of ballet/yoga/ strength/flexibily. It was an incredible class but I was all over the place because of the rest of my workout. I think Wednesday will be reserved for Sole Synthesis from now on!

I had fantastci brown rice veggie salad with jerked chicken. It had carrots, peas, green beans, red peppers, tomato, cucumber, I think that is it. I made it the day before so all the flavors could marinate together. It was yummy, refreshing, and super healthy.

I am playing with the kids today. I will probably go over and do 30 minutes elliptical and then step aerobics tonight. I am hoping to finally get to run outside for a 5 mile run tomorrow. I am so looking forward to that.

Everyone have a fabulous day. Spring is coming. My daffodils are popping up. I find it so much easier to make healthy choices in gorgeous weather.

I had the coolest thing happen to me. I ran into a relative in the store and she didn't recognize me at first because of all the weight I lost! She was stunned and then called my mother later to comment on how good I looked.

I had a great eat day, but did not get to the gym last night. The most important on those days is to eat right.

Molly how much fiber is in flax bread? I eat Raisin Bran and that is 9 grm.

Tonight we're going to our friends' house for dinner and games. They're making spaghetti and asked us to make dessert.

I found a recipe online where you take chocolate graham crackers, top with fat free cool whip, and put another cracker on top and freeze. What you have is a low calorie ice cream sandwich. I only hope that there's enough time to freeze them before tonight. lol.

My pants are ridiculously loose today. DH told me we're going to have to take me belt shopping. lol. They're work pants, so I'm not concerned about replacing them, as I only have 2 weeks left of work. I just have to make sure they stay up until then. lol. This morning I was singing "Pants on the Ground" for myself.

Hey, I've lost 17 lbs so far. :) :) :) Yayyy.

FunBetty, ridiculously loose pants are AWESOME lol! Mine are getting there as well. I just realized that my belt is on it's last hole and it's still too big. I've moved in 4 holes since I started losing weight. How come there's no measurement for "Four Holes Less On the Ol' Belt" on Sparkpeople? There should be lol!

I made a whole wheat rotini pasta/no sugar pasta sauce combo last night. The sauce was incredible, had 4 ingredients (none of them preservatives or weird sounding chemicals) and I added lots of veggies to it, and a little bit of ground turkey. I added some fresh grated parmesan on top and it was so delicious! Since I'm going to a hockey game with hubby tonight I'm having leftovers for dinner. It was so yummy, and tasted so healthy. I had steamed normandy mix (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, zucchini, yellow squash) on the side. I think I have officially learned to love the taste of "real" food again. Lunch today is a brown rice/black bean mix and more steamed veggies. I am getting hungry so I better go heat it up lol.

I am finding it amazing at the amount of food that will fill me up these days. It looks so puny compared to the way I was eating before, and I wonder how many extra servings of food I had stuffed in my body from all of that overeating. It's mind boggling.

The high fiber flatbread (a wrap) I have for lunch is 9g fiber.

Two slices of flax bread (breakfast and dinner) have 6g fiber -- but are low carb and low calorie, which I also like. And the bread (with 10 servings/20 slices) is a better value ($2.99) than the package of flatbread (6 servings for $3.69)

There are higher fiber breads (and high fiber whole grain tortillas) out there, and light english muffins, too .... it's all a matter of reading labels and choosing what works for you. For me, I need the low carb aspect as much as the fiber.

Between my Fiber One, my flax bread, my apple, Kamut and my flatbread, I get 50.2g of daily fiber ... plus whatever fiber I get in the rest of what I eat! (Veggies, other items at lunch and for snack)

Betty, congrats on losing all of that weight! I like baggy pants and that song too!

Molly, isn't that too much fiber? I've heard that a person should only eat 25-35 grams of fiber a day. Too much fiber can have the same effect as too many beans, if you KWIM.

The foods that y'all mentioned sound good also. Need to try some recipes. Maybe I'll start a thread.

I'm doing okay, just okay. In the book,"The Spark", I'm learning about starting and maintaining a "Spark streak", which is where you consistently adopt and practice a good habit and/or stop a bad habit as many days in a row as you can. I've started a Spark streak of stopping a bad habit. I stopped eating sugary cookies and candies on February 28th, which was four days ago. I don't know what I'll do when Christmas comes, but I'll worry about that later. I just don't have the appetite for them anymore, especially since I watched that Biggest loser cookie temptation challenge this past Tuesday night.

I'm just working on changing my bad habits, one at a time. Eventually, I'll get rid of all of them and replace them with good ones as I go along.

Actually, 25g of fiber a day is the bare MINIMUM recommended. Americans, it seems, eat far too much processed food (and far too much dairy) and lag far behind the rest of the world for healthy daily fiber intake. (For example, the average daily fiber intake in China is 77g ... and in America it's less than 20g!) Beans, by the way, are an excellent and healthy source of fiber and protein. Now, if someone suddenly goes from 15g of fiber a day to 65g per day (which is my average) they will experience some gastrointestinal problems during the transition -- but our bodies are actually designed to process that much fiber quite efficiently... they just aren't used to it, unfortunately. But the very best way to get fat and cholesterol OUT of our bodies is by eating fiber ~ so that's what I'm doing!
