I wish that I had read this thread before going to the store to buy diet soda and donuts for myself and my family! I was asked to pick up the donuts, which I should have refused to do, but didn't. Next time, I'll say what I say when asked to bake brownies or other sweets, "No way!"

Makes complete sense, I am just a smidge to the next decade and that is the decade before my goal decade.

FunBetty - Thanks for the hunger/emotional eating checklist. I've come to realize that I'm very rarely hungry and almost all of my eating is emotional. (sigh). Well, it is good to know and that means that now I can do something about it. My cupboards were getting bare so I went to the store. Since I've been to weight watchers several times before, I knew what to buy. In fact, I was surprised that I remembered. I did splurge a bit on real steak, cashews, and nice thick sausages (about 100 calories - filled with veggies as well as chicken. Tasty!) along with the mountain of frozen veggies that I bought that I'll start adding to everything I eat. But that's ok - I'll have enough good food to last me for a while. I figure you pay one way or the other - either good high-quality food now and exercise, or heart disease and diabetes later. I actually feel full tonight, which is something I haven't felt in a while. Anyone here have an mp3 player? I'm looking for a good one that I can wear while I walk and exercise. I'd love recommendations! Pink and Mollymouser - congratulations on your weight loss!

I'd love recommendations! Pink and Mollymouser - congratulations on your weight loss! I used to have a normal mp3, but I upgraded to a (ipod) shuffle (the older style with the cool colors). I got it solely for working out and I love it because 1. it's small, 2. it can clip onto your shirt. That checklist helped me a lot as when I got "hungry", it made me ask all of those questions to make sure I was really hungry. It does get easier with time, I think.

I figure you pay one way or the other - either good high-quality food now and exercise, or heart disease and diabetes later. Good point, rgod! I need to remember this the next time I reach for something that isn't healthy for me. I think that I'm getting the connection now. It seems like I'm getting some weird dreams, almost like nightmares, after eating lots of sugar. Yesterday, I ate FOUR donuts, then had another nightmarish type dream last night. My heart was pounding fast, but I don't know if that was what woke me up, or the dream itself. What I do know is that I'm tired of these nightmares and I want them to stop. So today, I recommit myself to not eating sugary foods. I'm cutting down to one can of sugar free pop today and drinking more water. This will cut down on the caffeine as well as the artificial sweeteners. Now I have to log off and get busy exercising by packing and moving heavy boxes, so y'all have a wonderful, healthy eating day!

I feel like I am going through some sort of depression lately, and for those of you who know my story, I am somewhat taken by surprise. I recognize the symptoms; I am tired, feels like I am moving through mud, and I feel intensely unhappy. I don't like feeling this way. I have gained two pounds this past week, and although I am getting ready to have my TOM, I shouldn't feel this way. I have been eating a bit more than I should be the past several days. I did go for a walk last night since it was so nice out, and I felt better afterwards. I just woke up this morning thinking that there shouldn't be such a large gap between who I am and who I want to be. It's depressing. I need to go work out tonight but I promised a friend I would go out with her to listen to her (she's going through a divorce). I feel drained already! I'll at least eat healthy; I usually don't have to worry about it while I'm out.

Thank you all so much for the prayers, it helped tremendously. I woke up this morning still in a funk, but I was determined. I have so much on my plate right now (figuratively, not literally ). My 17-year old son dropped out of high school, and when I found out, I called the school only to be told that even if we physically force him to go to school, they cannot force him to stay, so there's nothing we can do. I'm heartbroken. My 6th grader is falling behind because he's more interested in girls than he is in school, and now they are talking about retaining him. WHAT is going on in my household??? I have a daycare baby who cries constantly the entire time he is here, and the sound of it is really beginning to get to me. BUT, I am sure this is the same day-to-day stuff people have to deal with, I'm not special that way, so it's time to buck up and deal with it. I'm trying to figure out how to work real exercise into my day since getting out of the house at night to work out is proving to not only be difficult, but it's causing me to not be able to fall asleep at night. I already get up at 5:30am so I'm not sure how I could get up even earlier when I'm not getting into bed before 11pm. Ugh, I hate when I have these kinds of dilemmas. Now that it's light out later in the day, I've been taking the little one for a 30-minute walk after the last daycare baby leaves. That's better than nothing.

Jenn, I'm praying for you and your family. When I get depressed, I tend to eat more carbs and sugary foods. It's not always a case of bucking up and going on with life though. If it persists for longer than two weeks, it could be a serious issue. I encourage you to come over to the Mental Health Encouragement Thread to share your struggles and receive encouragement from others who have similar issues. It's at the top of the Health & Fitness folder. I did well yesterday, no sugary foods! I also didn't eat anything after dinner. I drank about 6 cups of water all day, plus coffee with milk and several cans of diet Coke. That's hard to cut down, but it will come in time. Anyway, I bought a new food item to try. I had it for breakfast with my Fiber One cereal and I can say that it was very good! Molly, thank you for the tip about the Blue Diamond Unsweetened Vanilla Breeze drink! I just wish that it came in half gallon, rather than quart size containers though. What are your plans for today? We're having corned beef, cabbage, potatoes and some dessert made with green pudding, oranges and cool whip. My exercise plans are to do more packing, lifting and pushing of heavy boxes. Got to get busy now. Have a blessed St Patrick's day and don't drink too much green beer!

We had the same thing but this time I cooked it a little differently. I sauteed the cabbage, carrots, onions and garlic in olive oil and 2 tblsp of butter. After about 10 minutes, I added the corned beef with the brine and apple cider vinegar let that simmer another 10 minutes and then transferred everything to a baking dish. Baked for about an 1.5 hours on low heat 300F. It was very tasty and delicious. I've had a good week. Kept my caloric deficit at about 700-800 calories most of the week but I am not getting enough fiber, so I need to work on that.

Glad you liked the almond breeze-I was going to try some last week but wasn't brave enough. Not sure what the "benefit" of it is over milk? Didn't have my glasses with me so I couldn't read the nutrition label. I eat Fiber One cereal frequently-sounds like a yummy wake up meal.

Hubby got a carton of vanilla soy milk, and no one here will drink it. It kind of tastes chalky to me. I don't really drink milk per se, and I usually only have it on cereal, so I've put it on my afternoon bowl of shredded wheat 'n' bran cereal and it tastes fine to me. I wonder if almond breeze tastes better. Nutritionally, I couldn't find too much difference between skim milk and the light soy milk, so ???

I buy the lactose free milk. I tried soy milk but I didn't care for it, but it tastes okay with cereal. I think the almond milk has more protein.

DD has tree nut allergies....so almond milk is out of the question for us. (However, I loooooove almonds and other various nuts).
