Just kinda laughing to myself about one thing I have been reading about VoIP service.

Everyone of them say that if you don't have power (electricity) - you won't have ph service, either.

They say that because regular analog telephones get their power from the phone company, not the AC power in your house. There is no power cable on a basic telephone.

Ja iluvatar, and the rest .......... that's my main point ......... there are a [I]"LOT" more that "DONT" know there phone has a small amt of electricty, than those that do! :)

And knocking on wood ....... so far when att has been down, and all we had was cell service - lucky, we had cell - yet.

Good point. It pays to have a few "not so fancy" phones.

Hey y'all! howz about an update, eh?

1) Well, ran into a somewhat of a good deal for magicjack - one month free service (if there's such a thing!) so I took it.

2) After reviewing a lot of VoIP providers - I an almost agree w/ magicjack, when magicjack says alot of VoIP's have more bells and whistles to them - thus why they charge more.

3) The other day I called ATT about my phone service, and getting their dry-loop service - and found out that I can get regular cellphone service - and not a prepaid one, for pretty-well much the same cost of the prepaid.

4) "Watch how your bank treats your check card transactions!"
I say that - because I had forgotten, that the bank treats them as a debit card, and "NOT" like a credit card. Luckily my purchase didn't cause any overdrafts!

5) I expect to have my magicjack either today or tomorrow ......... so will keep y'alls informed.

Till nxt time ........ caio!

UPDATE

Well, I really went and did it this time! lol

Just as I was getting ready to ditch the old land line - att gives me one heck of a great deal!

First - the bad news; it would've costed me $50/mo just to have a dedicated line. Ouch!

2ndly - I got a great deal on a bundle package; Regular 3G cell phone service, Direct TV, basic phone service, and DSL.

All for an incredible price of $120/month!. Which didn't take me long to figure that that was a good deal considering just my Dish TV & Phone service were a tad higher than that - and that's not even including the cell nor DSL!

Of course - in 2 yrs, I probably got to revisit deal making, but won't worry about it till around then.

Will be getting hooked-up w/ VoIp w/in the nxt couple of wks - and was wondering what y'all preference of VoIp providers y'all have.

And was also wondering about opinions about majicjack, if anyone has tried it

Thanx

-charles

Look at http://www.ooma.com/

They let you own your dial tone - its much better then MagicJack - and it's backed by some very large companies!
