To be perfectly frank, a lot of everyday, mundane stuff that happens is due to my own stupidity.

If I forgot to mail a check...it's because I forgot to mail a check. If my kids are talking to me while I'm trying to write or figure something and I make a mistake it's because I can't listen to them and think at the same time. If I burn supper it's because I got involved with something and didn't pay attention to it. If I slip and fall on the ice it's because it was icy.

If I'm late, it's because I don't leave early enough. I know that because I am consistently late because I consistently don't leave early enough. If it happened rarely, then I might think that possibly I was held back to avoid something. If, as I go through town, all the lights are green I say "Thank you, God" because it was a happy, serendipitous thing. But if some or all are red I don't assume I'm going to miss being in an accident because I had to stop.

That's pretty much the view I take on things, too. Although today when I slipped on the ice, missed two steps, and landed on my feet, even though I was wearing high heels, I thanked God for it! :)

Yeah - God was probably askin' ya - ['i]"just what were you thinking, when you put on high-heels, knowing all too well - it's slippery outside?"

Well, I think I remember someone saying, 'it's better to look good than to feel good !!"

Glad you didn't hurt yourself. It has been icy out.

I don't think this thinking is Reformed/Calvanistic, but I could be wrong. I've never done a scriptural study on this.

This brings to mind the quote "What the devil meant for evil, God can turn it around for my good" (or something like that, there are varying versions of this particular quote out there.

I just want to say that I don't believe that everything in my life that has happened God intended for me to have to go through it, but because it did and it was something that the devil was trying to use to destroy me, God turned it around for my good. So that I can help others that have been through similar issues, etc. I know I could have saved myself a whole lot of pain and suffering had I been obedient, but because of the resilience that God has given me, I wouldn't be the woman that I am today had I not gone through some things. There are other more pressing situations that I believe God did intend for me to go through...like I'm learning my response to certain little things in life.

Laptop breaks...used to get me angry but over the past year I've been through so much because of that laptop I welcome the break when I don't have it. Although I do miss my music a lot when its gone.

Heart-broken...can be the same thing. I don't believe I've gone through this for nothing lol. It's preparing me to be wise, teaching me how to guard my heart more and ultimately prepare for the time/season when true love does enter my life.

My two cents. more like 10 cents, sorry...anyone got change?

Yes my Child, sometimes the truth is a bitter pill to take.

Thanks

I'm gonna throw this out there and see what you think; do some use this thinking to justify their bad actions or decisions?

Well I actually have a friend who ran out of gas one night and called me to say the devil was attacking her and she wondered what Jesus was trying to tell her by all of that.

My response was that the Good Lord was trying to tell her to keep gas in her tank

I have a relative that I believe is doing this and has been doing this her whole life. Do you even bother trying to get them to se that it's wrong?

"There's a reason for everything?"

Yes.

Why? Does someone have an issue with this statement?

I did read the whole thread. I was trying to get back to the point of the op. I guess I'm not sure what you were trying to get at with the op.

Wandering, I'm sorry if my comment seemed rude. Many come in here without reading the thread.

Why do you say, 'Yes?"

Romans 8:28 says that God causes everything (even the bad things) to work together for good for those who love Him. Even when we don't understand what's happening and we can't see a bit of good in it, God is in control and He will bring us through it.

Why do I say yes? It's simple cause and effect. There's a reason (or several reasons) I am on my computer right now, typing this. I probably don't need to explain that. There's a reason that there is a piece of used tissue on my desktop. Again, probably needs no explanation. Is there anything that does not exist for a reason?
